Still Whispers

Still whispers in my soul this day
do make my heart rejoice
Knowing that I oft depend upon
your quiet voice

What love is this that gently weighs and
saturates my thirst
Though worldly lasts mine own commend,
to you my humble first

Be near me Lord in every hour
I cannot live without
your peace surpassing all expecting
slaying every doubt

In you I shall place all my trust
my hopes and my despair
For you alone are faithful,true
in reckoning all my care

Autumn Leaves

Leaves fall like golden snow
upon a lush green ground
With every breeze, a circumstance
of quiet rustling sound

Each fiery leaf a traveler
of seasons now in flight
rhyming,dancing,turning
pirouettes of sprite

What looses you your amber stem from
so nourishing a host?

Does stalwart branch condemn your fate
when beauty's at its most?

Now as browning blanket,
nestled close to earth
you fill once more her coffers
as life renews its birth

Green Breeze

green breeze
against a still grey sky
presides
over horsy barns
and white washed fences

where wings of color a'flutter
dart this way and that way
all knowing of purpose
and plan

Sorghum sways algorithmic
under a fading sun
as drops fall clear and purposed
on the thirsty ground

and quiet mercy reminds
her children
of their fate
of their hope
of their dawn

Behold,
all things are
becoming new

Song for America

There's a place of no more tears
bright shining as the sun
some folks call it heaven where
our journey's finally done
Til' then with tears transparent
from purple hearts we bleed
and sow the seeds of victory
to capture fear's dark deeds

Our righteousness by mercy,
exceeds the grasp of hate
as God our King delivers us
through His eternal gates

We are a royal priesthood
whose sacrifice is done
when sacred life so cherished
is protected every one

Though forward march by stumblings felled
sojourning through the night,
we overcome with vision fair
remaining ever bright
Our eyes of faith in hope distilled,
assured we carry on
by peace to build God's Kingdom
who's victory's our song

Father August

Weep not for us Father August,
Weep not for your daughter and son
the time upon us occurring
is not ours but God's will be done

For in holy hands your children remain
never to be plucked out, delivered to shame
and by our blood is kindled a fire
that consumes the depths of Sheol

Let the Lion roar before all eyes
for the day of reckoning has come
All that is unseen has been seen and will be
and what is decreed shall be done

We shall not fear the hand of destruction
for the angel's decree is by our side
They have come at us by sevens
We shall come back at them as one and rise

So goes the eagle's tide

For Babylon the mighty has fallen, fallen
her hour of destruction come
All nations shall gaze on her burning
by the angel of fire her combustion comes

Remember the Mountain

Remember the mountain
ancient and bright
and the pillar of fire
that once broke the night

Look up my children
be strong and brave
Surrender your hope
from a dark mangled grave

It is I who sustains you
with my fortune of light
Can you not see me
right here in your plight ?

For lo I am with you
til the end of the age
in a new morn dawning
from my words on a page

Listen my children
and hear my cry
once more on a Shofar
that comes by and by

Out of Egypt I called you
for freedom most fair
yet you take me for granted
getting lost in the air

Come quickly my children
and open your ears
It is I who has made them
so long heed the years

Look up! Look up!
your work is not done
Hear my Israel,
your God is one

Sister Birds

In the morning I hear
sister birds
calling, calling come
Their singing lifts my
face upturned
unyielding towards the
sun

These soft and gentle
harmonies imprinted on
my soul
make ever new the
ecstasies
kind memory unfolds

The Phoebe and the Mockingbird
their new songs sung in
round
fall on fresh rained
grasses
raising flowers from the
ground

The buttercups so small
and bright
smile upwards at the
trees
and vio'lets so mellow, pose
sweet succor for the
bees

The clover like a carpet
never for to bend
In rank and file like
watchers
they side by side all
stand

The elm ,the oak, the
willow
steadfast in the
breeze
point in adulation at
singularity

Above in timelines
passing
billowy clouds move free
Through many parts one
vision
this nature seems to me

An American Prayer

Divine Creator, hear our prayer
Be present with us in our time of need
Divine in us your sovereign light,
that we may shine high like the lighthouse,
above the fierce approaching storms
May we as a nation and as individual Americans
cherish the freedom our birthright avows
That no man, no woman, no child,
whether stranger, or traveler or friend,
should ever suffer among us
the heavy burden of bigotry on this our native soil
Where there is prejudice, help us to rise and not fall
Where there is hatred, help us to forgive and show mercy
Where there is division, help us to build a lasting peace
And where there are failed hopes, we plead
that our spirit never be broken
Grant us O God the blessing,
that together, as many and as one, our better angels prevail
that our history, though replete with transgressions,
may shine ever brighter with each rising day
as we forge  for our children, and  for our children's children
a future of better tomorrows

Amen

Phoebe mine:

If my name was Genghis
If I wore a sword
If I ran with horses
and led a mighty horde

I would surely keep my children
close upon my breast
and sing them softly lullabies
near our tender nest

But alas my name is woman
no sword to guard our rest
and Genghis stole my daughter
he's put her to the test

I can hear her silent crying
in my dreams and when I wake
a hollow ghostly screaming
she’s un-allowed to make

A golden horde surrounds her
a captive she must smile, in
a carnival of horrors
performing at her trial

My Phoebe can you hear me ?
you beat in mama's time
look up and see the stars

they are yours and they are mine

Henry

Henry wher’d you go, I
thought I heard your
whisper
in that willow, my

eyes blind to you
in mind, yet
my heart
sees you move

across the floor your
gait, your groove
oh how I know
your pace, that face

so out of place in
this world we know
brother why’d you go and
leave me here, alone

if I could have you
back again, I’d sell myself
my life, my limb just
to feel your gaze and then

we’d be us
and you would see, the
whys of why
you couldn't leave

Canary in the Coal Mine (for Ryan)

A canary in a golden cage
counting down it's shackled days
stills it's wandering wings

The lark sublime makes holy ground
where air and beak but make a sound
and stills the souls of men

With dappled yellow feathers pied
the bird makes melodies that rise
to still the heart of God

The gilded cage is carried low
down and down and down they go
as shadows longer,larger grow

The carrier descending deep
as silent stillness creeps and creeps
the bird is watching wondering

What place is this where no light shines
no breeze descends deep in a mine
what aire can darkness make?

The miner sits upon a mound
made by men as dying ground
where secret spells are cast

He sets the cage down at his side
and waits to hear the song subside
this cave now their domain

The yellow bird with laboring breast
heaves and sighs to find it's breath
but broken hearts don't sing

The silent knell is deafening
